Venetian blinds are beautiful and instantly add charm and sophistication to any home. But in order to maintain those elegant features and more importantly, ensure that the life of your blinds are extended for as long as possible, it is necessary to clean and care for them in a proper manner. In this post, we will take a look at four different ways you can care for and properly maintain your stunning Venetian blinds.
- Conduct The Proper Preparation Steps Before Cleaning: Before you start doing any actual cleaning of your Venetian blinds, check for stains, sticky spots, or splats that would make general cleaning more difficult for you. If you spot any of these things, use a gentle, natural cleaning product to carefully spray on the stained area. Use paper towels to thoroughly rub away the stained area. Once all stains, sticky spots, and other problems are addressed, tie back your curtains to protect them once you start cleaning.
- Light Cleaning With Your Hands: One of the ways to conduct light cleaning of your Venetian blinds is by simply using your hands. To start, place the blinds in the shut position. Cover your hands with either soft cotton gloves or dust-attractant gloves. If you don’t have any gloves, you can use a clothe’s dryer sheet. These are an excellent option for reducing static electricity. If your Venetian blinds are wooden, you want to keep your gloves completely dry so that you don’t leave oily or greasy streaks behind after cleaning. If your Venetian blinds consist of metallic slats, you can carefully dampen your gloves with water. Use a sustainable cleaning solution that doesn’t leave any stickiness behind when spraying across the slats. Once you have sprayed the blinds, gently rub your fingers over the slats. Start from the center and go to the right then return to the center and go to the left. When you do it this way, instead of going all the way from left to right, it ensures that no extra dust is left behind.
- Light Cleaning With a Vacuum: Alternatively, if using your hands as a method of cleaning doesn’t work for you, you can use a vacuum cleaner. Close your blinds and attach a soft duster brush to the nozzle of your vacuum cleaner. You also want to use a soft attachment as the nozzle will leave scratches on your slats. Secure the blinds by hold them with one hand and running the nozzle over them. Run the nozzle from the center to the left, then from the center toward the right. Once you have gotten the front, vacuum the underside of the slats.
